About Me

Polar Bears Walking Along Shadowline - ABRX1906

I’m based in Virginia and travel widely to photograph landscapes, weather, and the wild places that tug at my soul — often arctic and alpine environments. When I can’t get far from home or work, I look for nature in the pockets around the cities I live near, or I turn my attention to architecture. I learned photography on a Nikon FE shooting and developing my own film.  Today I shoot with Fuji in both crop‑sensor and medium‑formats. Photography isn’t my full‑time job, but it’s what keeps me fulfilled and full of gratitude.

Humans have an obligation to protect that which we cannot replace.

Nature photography is an exercise in patience and observation — a way of noticing what’s already there, from arctic peaks to pockets of life in the city. I believe humans all have an obligation to protect the environment we live in and the animals we share it with.  If you want to help but aren’t sure how, you can learn more here.

The start is the hard. Nature photography can be tough.   The harsh weather, physical and mental discomforts, and the hazards of wildlife to contend with.  However, the practicalities of it can discourage and stop you before you even get started. Contact me if you’re stuck at the start, I'm willing to share advice and lessons learned.
